Innovation in the form of DIY Valentines

A week or so ago I was browsing Etsy’s offering of Star Wars-related art and I stumbled across a valentine, bursting at the seams with cuteness.

"Will you BB-8 Mine?”

What? That’s the best you’ve got? I read another.

“Valentine, you are my Rey of sunshine.”

In all fairness, the products I was looking at were probably meant for children, but I was disappointed all the same. The Force Awakens has more than enough lines and jokes to constitute a creative array of valentines, for all to enjoy.

Without a second thought, I set out to prove it.

Four days later, and I’m over 20 hours deep; I have shimmery paper, heart cutouts and bits of frilly fabric strewn across my entire apartment. I’m no longer proving a point, I’m making eight of the most elaborate Star Wars-themed Valentines I’ve ever seen and I have a Wednesday shipping deadline.

In case you’re wondering, no this is not something I do every day. I might be in the creative field, but I work with computers, not glue guns. I edit video, not taglines. And yet, this project reminded me that creativity is versatile, and innovation comes in all manner of odd shapes and sizes; much like the force, it is all around us, guiding us, you just have to let it in.

So Happy Valentine’s day from Clark Creative Group, and may the force be with you.
